Two ways to get more than the cash offer. Both have a catch.

12% more as credit, or 10% more for waiting. Here is what each one actually costs you, said plainly rather than buried.

+12%

Trade-in voucher

Take the payout as credit on EpicDeals.co.za instead of cash and we add 12% on top. Paid the same way and on the same timing as cash, just in a different form.

The catch: it is only worth more if you spend it. We are paying you 12% for not needing the money in your account today, which is a genuinely good deal if you were buying a replacement phone anyway and a bad one if you were not.

Most sensible when: you are upgrading, and the old phone was always going to be the deposit on the new one.

+10%

Consignment

We list your Galaxy, photograph it, handle the buyer, and pay you 10% more than the instant offer once it sells. Most sell within 13 days.

The catch: you are paid when it sells, not when we receive it. 13 days is the average rather than a promise, and an unusual model or an unusual colour can sit longer.

Most sensible when: the phone is desirable, in good condition, and you are not in a hurry for the money.

And when cash is simply the right answer.

Which is often. If you need the money, take the money. It lands in your account within 5 working days of your offer being confirmed, in the 4pm every working day payment run, and there is nothing to redeem or remember.

We would rather say that here than build a page that quietly steers everybody toward the option that suits us. A voucher you never spend is worth nothing, however good the percentage on it looked.

Questions about the bonuses.

Is the 12% worth taking?

Only if you were going to spend money at EpicDeals.co.za anyway. A voucher worth more than cash is still worth less than cash if you never spend it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If the plan was always to buy a replacement phone, take the voucher. If you need the money in your account, take the money.

How long does consignment actually take?

Most devices sell within 13 days, and you are paid once it sells rather than up front. That is the trade: 10% more for waiting and for carrying the small risk that yours takes longer than average.

Can I change my mind after choosing?

Before we have tested the device, yes, just tell us. After the offer is confirmed and paid, no, because at that point the money has already gone out in whichever form you picked.

Does the voucher expire?

It does not expire on a timer, but the sensible thing is to use it while you still want what you were going to buy. Ask on WhatsApp if you want the current terms in writing before you commit.
