The A series is not worth nothing. It is just worth less than you would like.
A14 through A56. The phones most South Africans actually own, and yes, we buy them.
More South Africans use a Galaxy A than any flagship, and almost nobody thinks to sell one, because the assumption is that a mid-range phone is worthless the moment it stops being new. That assumption is wrong by a few thousand rand on the newer models and by a few hundred on the older ones, and a few hundred rand is still more than a drawer pays.
The A series also has the steadiest second-hand demand of anything on this site. These are the phones people buy when they need a phone that works rather than a phone they want, and that demand does not disappear when a new generation launches.
The honest framing: an A series phone will not fund an upgrade on its own. It will make a real dent in one, and it costs you nothing to find out how big.
Every one of these has two numbers.
What it is worth working, and what it is worth faulty. Both are real, both are yours in about a minute, and both depend on the actual device rather than a best case printed on a page. That is why the number lives in the calculator and not in a table here.

If you are upgrading, you are not selling. You are part-paying.
The best value move from an A series phone is almost never a newer A series phone. A two- or three-year-old S is usually similar money and a substantially better phone, particularly the screen and the cameras.
Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit instead of cash and we add 12% on top. That is us paying you for not needing the money in your account today, and it costs you nothing if you were going to spend it here anyway.
The 12% is only worth taking if you were going to spend it. If you need the cash, take the cash, and we will not make the voucher hard to refuse.
What actually moves the number.
Which A, and which year
The A series numbering is dense and the values are not. An A56 and an A14 are both A series and are not in the same conversation. Pick the exact model in the calculator.
Whether it is fully working
This matters proportionally more here than on a flagship. A working A series phone has an obvious buyer. A broken one has parts value, which at this price point is a much smaller number.
Screen condition
The most common damage and the most common deduction. A cracked A series screen is still worth selling, it just moves the number a long way in percentage terms.
Battery health
On the older A models this is usually the reason the phone was replaced in the first place. It is expected, it is priced in, and declaring it costs you less than having it found.
Things that do not disqualify it.
Every one of these lowers the offer. Not one of them ends it. Pick the matching condition, say what is wrong in the notes, and the price you are shown already accounts for it.
- Cracked or shattered screen, front or back glass
- Burn-in or a green line down the AMOLED panel
- A battery that swells, dies at 30% or will not hold a day
- Fingerprint sensor under the screen that has stopped reading
- USB-C port that only charges if you hold the cable just so
- Camera with dust, haze or a rattling stabiliser
- Water damage, including phones that dried out and seemed fine
- Will not switch on at all
Three ways to take the money.
