Your Galaxy S22 is worth more than the drawer it is in.

S22, S22+ or S22 Ultra. Working, cracked, or with a battery that gave up two years ago.

The S22 is where the curve starts getting steeper, and it is the generation we see most often described as "just an old phone" by people who are about to be surprised. An S22 Ultra in reasonable condition is still worth a few thousand rand, which is not nothing to leave in a drawer indefinitely.

The S22 also had a genuinely rough reputation for battery life when it was new, particularly the standard model. Four years on, that has not improved. If yours barely reaches lunchtime, that is not a fault you caused and it is not a reason we will not buy it.

This is the last generation where the difference between selling now and selling in a year is still worth acting on. After this, the numbers flatten out at the bottom.

Every one of these has two numbers.

What it is worth working, and what it is worth faulty. Both are real, both are yours in about a minute, and both depend on the actual device rather than a best case printed on a page. That is why the number lives in the calculator and not in a table here.

If you are upgrading, you are not selling. You are part-paying.

From an S22 the honest advice is to skip a couple of generations rather than move one forward, because one step from here does not feel like much. A previous-generation flagship usually lands better than the newest mid-range.

Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit instead of cash and we add 12% on top. That is us paying you for not needing the money in your account today, and it costs you nothing if you were going to spend it here anyway.

The 12% is only worth taking if you were going to spend it. If you need the cash, take the cash, and we will not make the voucher hard to refuse.

What actually moves the number.

The Ultra is a different phone entirely

The S22 Ultra was the first Ultra to swallow the Note, S Pen silo and all, and second-hand buyers still hunt for it specifically for that. It carries a large premium over the rest of its generation.

Battery, which on this generation is the headline

The S22 was not good at this when it was new. At four years old, expect the number to be low, and expect the offer to reflect it. Declaring it honestly costs you less than having it found in testing.

Screen condition and burn-in

Four years is long enough for a static status bar to leave a mark. Check on a white background in good light before you describe the condition.

Whether it still opens the S Pen silo

On the Ultra, a silo that no longer releases, or a pen that has been lost, is a real subtraction. It is also entirely normal at this age and not a reason to hold on to the phone.

Things that do not disqualify it.

Every one of these lowers the offer. Not one of them ends it. Pick the matching condition, say what is wrong in the notes, and the price you are shown already accounts for it.

  • Cracked or shattered screen, front or back glass
  • Burn-in or a green line down the AMOLED panel
  • A battery that swells, dies at 30% or will not hold a day
  • Fingerprint sensor under the screen that has stopped reading
  • USB-C port that only charges if you hold the cable just so
  • Camera with dust, haze or a rattling stabiliser
  • Water damage, including phones that dried out and seemed fine
  • Will not switch on at all

Galaxy S22 questions.

Yes. Battery degradation on this generation is expected rather than exceptional, and we price it in rather than treating it as damage. Say so in the calculator.

One minute, one number.

No account, no obligation, no salesperson phoning you at supper time.
