We buy the Z Flip sealed. Used ones we have to decline.

Unopened, in the box, never activated. If yours has been used, here is the straight reason why the answer is no.

The Flip is the folding phone people actually buy, and it is still one we can only take sealed. That is worth explaining rather than leaving you to discover it at the last step of a form.

The inner screen is the reason. It is the part that fails on folding phones, it fails on devices nobody mistreated, and the failure usually shows up well after the phone has changed hands. The panel and the hinge come as one assembly, so a repair is among the most expensive Samsung does, and none of the risk is visible on the day a phone arrives looking perfect.

That means we cannot warranty a used Flip when we resell it. Rather than build that risk into an offer so low it would be insulting, we do not make one. Sealed and unopened, though, we buy at a strong price.

What we buy, and only in this condition.

Sealed and unopened, with the factory wrap intact and the device never activated. There is no used price for these, so there is no second number. Proof of purchase is required, as it is on any sealed device.

If you are upgrading, you are not selling. You are part-paying.

Flip owners who move on usually go to a compact S rather than another foldable, and that is a phone we buy used at a proper price whenever you are done with it.

Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit instead of cash and we add 12% on top. That is us paying you for not needing the money in your account today, and it costs you nothing if you were going to spend it here anyway.

The 12% is only worth taking if you were going to spend it. If you need the cash, take the cash, and we will not make the voucher hard to refuse.

What actually moves the number.

It has to be genuinely sealed

Factory shrink-wrap intact, seals unbroken, never activated. A Flip that was opened, set up once and put back in the box is a used Flip, and it will be assessed as one.

Proof of purchase

Required on any sealed device across every category. It is how we confirm a sealed phone is legitimately yours to sell.

Which generation

A sealed Flip 7 and a sealed Flip 4 are years apart, and on an unopened device that gap is wider than it would be second-hand, because the market for an old sealed phone is narrow.

Colour, occasionally

More than on any other Samsung. The Flip sells on looks, and a sealed one in a colour nobody wanted is worth a little less than the same phone in one people did.

Why a used one is a no, even a mint one.

The opposite of every other page here, where a fault lowers the offer rather than ending it. On a folding phone the risk is not what you can see on arrival, it is what appears months after we have resold it.

  • The inner folding screen is the part that fails, and it fails on devices that were never dropped
  • A crease deepens with every open and close, and it never reverses
  • The hinge collects grit, loosens, and eventually takes the panel with it
  • The protective inner layer lifts at the fold and cannot be replaced on its own
  • Panel and hinge are effectively one assembly, so a repair is the most expensive in Samsung's range
  • None of that is visible when a device arrives looking perfect
  • Which means we cannot warranty a used one on resale, at any price

Galaxy Z Flip questions.

Still no, and we would rather say it here than after you have packed it. The issue is not condition on arrival, it is that folding screens fail later on devices that were looked after perfectly. We cannot stand behind a used one on resale, so there is no price that works for us.

Selling something else?

Every other Samsung we buy in whatever condition it is in, including phones that will not switch on. One collection covers the lot.
