Broken is a price, not a refusal.

Cracked, drowned, dead or just refusing to switch on. We buy the phone anyway, and we say the number up front.

Almost every buyback site says it buys broken phones. The difference is what happens after they have it. The common trick in this industry is a good online quote followed by a phone call about a fault that was mysteriously not visible in the photographs, at which point your phone is in their building and your negotiating position is gone.

We price the fault at the start instead. You tell the calculator what is wrong, the number you see already accounts for it, and that is the number that gets paid provided the phone matches what you described. If it does not match, we tell you and you can have it back, free, rather than being talked into a lower figure.

The one thing we genuinely cannot buy is a phone still locked to somebody's Samsung or Google account, because nobody can reset it or resell it. That is not a policy, it is the phone being unusable.

One exception, stated up front rather than buried: folding Galaxies. We buy the Z Fold and Z Flip sealed and unopened only, so a used one is a device we have to decline whatever is wrong with it.

Every one of these has two numbers.

What it is worth working, and what it is worth faulty. Both are real, both are yours in about a minute, and both depend on the actual device rather than a best case printed on a page. That is why the number lives in the calculator and not in a table here.

If you are upgrading, you are not selling. You are part-paying.

If a broken phone is why you are here, the cheapest good replacement is a two-year-old flagship rather than a new mid-range. Your broken one covers more of that than you would think.

Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit instead of cash and we add 12% on top. That is us paying you for not needing the money in your account today, and it costs you nothing if you were going to spend it here anyway.

The 12% is only worth taking if you were going to spend it. If you need the cash, take the cash, and we will not make the voucher hard to refuse.

What actually moves the number.

What exactly is broken

A cracked screen, a dead battery and a phone that will not power on are three very different numbers. The more precisely you describe it, the more accurate the offer, and the less chance of it changing later.

Whether it still switches on

The single biggest split. A phone that boots can be tested, wiped and resold. One that does not is parts, which is a much smaller figure at every model level.

Which phone it is

A broken Ultra is worth more than a working A series phone. The model matters more than the fault does.

Whether it is account locked

This is the one that is fatal rather than expensive. Remove your Samsung and Google accounts before sending, or the phone cannot be bought.

Things that do not disqualify it.

Every one of these lowers the offer. Not one of them ends it. Pick the matching condition, say what is wrong in the notes, and the price you are shown already accounts for it.

  • Cracked or shattered screen, front or back glass
  • Burn-in or a green line down the AMOLED panel
  • A battery that swells, dies at 30% or will not hold a day
  • Fingerprint sensor under the screen that has stopped reading
  • USB-C port that only charges if you hold the cable just so
  • Camera with dust, haze or a rattling stabiliser
  • Water damage, including phones that dried out and seemed fine
  • Will not switch on at all

Three ways to take the money.

Broken Galaxy questions.

Because the offer is built from what you told us, and we test against exactly that. If it matches, it is paid. If it genuinely does not match, we say so, tell you the difference, and courier it back for free if you would rather have it. What we do not do is find a new fault to negotiate with.

One minute, one number.
