One generation back, and still one of the most wanted phones here.

S25 Ultra, 256GB to 1TB. The S Pen, the telephoto, and a price that still reflects it.

An S25 Ultra is in the best possible position for a resale: one generation old, so it is affordable enough to be within reach of people who could not stretch to it new, and recent enough that nobody thinks of it as an old phone. That combination is exactly what keeps a number high.

It is also still getting the same Android updates as the current flagship, which matters more to a second-hand buyer than any camera specification. A supported phone is a phone somebody will pay properly for.

The window does not stay open indefinitely. Once it is two generations back the phone moves from wanted to affordable, and the price follows.

Every one of these has two numbers.

What it is worth working, and what it is worth faulty. Both are real, both are yours in about a minute, and both depend on the actual device rather than a best case printed on a page. That is why the number lives in the calculator and not in a table here.

If you are upgrading, you are not selling. You are part-paying.

The natural move, and the one where a trade-in voucher does the most work, because you are buying the same phone one year newer rather than changing anything about how you use it.

Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit instead of cash and we add 12% on top. That is us paying you for not needing the money in your account today, and it costs you nothing if you were going to spend it here anyway.

The 12% is only worth taking if you were going to spend it. If you need the cash, take the cash, and we will not make the voucher hard to refuse.

What actually moves the number.

Screen condition first

The panel is the single most expensive thing on this phone to replace, and the first thing any buyer inspects. A flawless screen on a year-old Ultra is worth real money over a scratched one even when everything else matches.

The S Pen, and whether the silo still works

Both matter. A pen that is missing, and a silo that no longer releases it, are separate deductions and both are worth declaring.

Battery health after a year

Should be comfortably above 90%. If it is not, that says something about how hard it has been fast-charged, and buyers price it accordingly. Check the number under Settings, Battery, Battery health.

Storage

Still a real factor at this level, for the same reason it is on the newest Ultra: the people shopping for a second-hand Ultra usually know exactly what they intend to fill it with.

Things that do not disqualify it.

Every one of these lowers the offer. Not one of them ends it. Pick the matching condition, say what is wrong in the notes, and the price you are shown already accounts for it.

  • Cracked or shattered screen, front or back glass
  • Burn-in or a green line down the AMOLED panel
  • A battery that swells, dies at 30% or will not hold a day
  • Fingerprint sensor under the screen that has stopped reading
  • USB-C port that only charges if you hold the cable just so
  • Camera with dust, haze or a rattling stabiliser
  • Water damage, including phones that dried out and seemed fine
  • Will not switch on at all

Three ways to take the money.

Now is better than later, and it is not close. One generation back is the highest-demand position a flagship occupies. Two generations back is where the price steps down noticeably.
